Tockwith's Help for Ebenezer

The village of Tockwith in Yorkshire has been fundraising for the needy children at Ebenezer, Zambia, for many years.

TOCKWITH'S 2012 QUIZ NIGHT RAISED AN AMAZING £1500 FOR EBENEZER!

So by August 2012, Tockwith has raised over £13,500 - thank you all so much!

Tockwith's Sara Sonley has raised over £1000 by celebrating her special birthday and wedding anniversary on behalf of little Sara who has been in Ebenezer's care since her mother died. Little Sara weighed only 2lb when she was born 2 months prematurely.  Big Sara raised £1034 for her care in the baby home.

Sponsored Cycle Ride Brings Tockwith's Fundraising Total to £10,000

The Alliott family finished their 5 day Coast to Coast bike ride along The Way of the Roses from Morecambe to Bridlington on August 2nd, 2011. They said, 'there were definitely times when we found it tough going as we were with a group of very fit cyclists.  At times it was very hot and the roads very steep but we had excellent weather, wonderful company and magnificent scenery.  For the sake of continuing peace between the Roses of Lancashire and Yorkshire we can say that each County should be equally proud of its countryside.

We are very grateful to fellow Skedaddlers, friends and family for their generous sponsorship.  We should have made in excess of £500 and will put a total on the website shortly.  This means that events in Tockwith have now raised over £10,000 for Ebenezer's since 2003.  We do it because Ebenezer Child Care is such a special charity which not only gives to its children food and shelter but also a family and a future.'

A musical evening which was held on 16th July raised the grand sum of £700.

Caroline Alliot who organised the event said, "we all had a wonderful evening on Saturday and were delighted to have raised £700 for Ebenezer's.  The figure was boosted by two large donations after the event.  Ebenezer's seems to bring out the best in people.  We had two young ladies who sang solos and duets of well known songs and then a young lady who composes as well as sings and plays guitar.  We then had two young pupils and a staff member from St Aidan's school in Harrogate, a painist, a violinist and a vocalist who included songs from Les Miserables.  We finished off with a folk rock band and then a disco.  The talent was amazing and the variety of music brilliant.  We are very grateful to those who gave their time to helping the event and to those who entertained us so magnificently.  The event was very good value for money as it also included a barbeque.

Our next event will be a quiz in March 2012, although the Alliott family are cycling Coast to Coast from Morecombe to Bridlington at the end of July to try and boost the funds sent to Ebenezer's to £10,000 since 2003.  Tockwith wants to be able to reach this target in Ebenezer's 10th anniversary year.

Keith and Anne's Visit to Tockwith in May 2010

We had been hoping to take Ranji with us to Yorkshire to visit the School at Tockwith and to meet many other people who have a heart for Ebenezer orphans.  Icelandic ash prevented her visit at that time, but we will try again!!

However, we had a great time and were delighted to share the latest news with the schoolchildren and staff.  This lovely school has been fundraising for Ebenezer since Mrs. Lumley returned from a visit to Southern Africa in 2004.

We had the pleasure of meeting Mary Lumley, Headmistress of Tockwith C of E Primary School, and Caroline Alliott, who organises an annual Quiz Fundraising night and who also helps with finding sponsors for children to continue their education.

Below is the school's display about Ebenezer Child Care Trust.

A big thank you is also due to George and Olivia Alliott who raised £323 from a sponsored 319km bicycle ride along the Danube. Very well done!

AND THANK YOU TO EACH PERSON IN TOCKWITH WHO IS HELPING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF YOUNG VULNERABLE PEOPLE WHO LIVE OVER 5000 MILES AWAY.
